May 4, 2017

The recent clear blue skies might have given the illusion of an endless summer, but winter is coming and what better way to keep nice and warm, than with a delicious glass of mulled wine!

To get into the toasty spirit, here are 4 interesting facts about mulled wine:

When in Rome

Apparently, we can thank the Romans for this delightful drink. So the story goes, they couldn’t stand to drink poor tasting wines, so they added spices and fruit for a delicious finish – and we’re sure glad they did.

Mulled wine has many names

The winter warmer has many monikers. In Germany mulled wine is referred to as Glühwein. In Italy, it is known as Vin brulé and in France, the Vin chaud.

Spices preserve the wine

Not only do the spices add flavour, they also act as a preservative making this the perfect drink to make ahead of time.

The secret TO THE PERFECT GLASS

The key to the perfect mulled wine is the right combination of clove, cinnamon and citrus flavours heated through a fresh, light-bodied red.
