2017: A Year in Review

I’m sure we’re not the only ones asking this, but where did the year go? We can’t believe we’re at the end of 2017 already! While we’re excited to see what 2018 has in store for us, we thought we’d sit back and reflect on the year that was.
Come Back of the Century
Once the holidays were over and everyone was back to the daily grind, we kicked things off with our annual Super Bowl party!! And what a party it was. With the biggest crowd we’ve seen at Dee Why Hotel yet, football enthusiasts tucked into our special Super Bowl burger, enjoyed bud buckets and watched the Patriots pull off the come back of the century to take out Super Bowl LI.
Celebrating 40 Years
The most memorable moment by far for 2017 was celebrating our 40 year anniversary since taking over the Dee Why Hotel! We have certainly come a long way since 1977, with the original pub boasting 3 beers on tap, no tab or even a ladies toilet! We did some digging into the archives and took a trip down memory lane, reflecting on all the changes that have happened over the years. From The Glider Room to The Jet Club, Dee Why Hotel has seen it all! To celebrate this epic milestone, we treated you all to some fun nostalgic flashbacks on social media, weekly old-school burger and cocktail specials, and we offered you our very own 1977 Pale Ale! Ow, and we also got a visit from our girl, Layne Beachley!!
Giving Back
We hosted our annual charity luncheon for the 17th year, raising much-needed funds for the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia (CCIA). With the generous help from our suppliers, we managed to raise a RECORD $202,321!! We also participated in the Dare The Boss challenge and asked our bosses to walk on fire and take an ice bath, all in the name of cancer. To date, the Bayfield family has now raised over $2.7 million for the CCIA.
Burgerlicious
We introduced our now famous weekly burger and beer deal, which has been an absolute hit with our loyal burger lovers. We’ve produced some real doozies like The Pancake, The Meatlovers Pizza Burger and the One Night in Bangkok to name a few. We took some of our burgers on location this year for the Bayfield Cup and gave away one lucky winner FREE burgers for a whole year!! Keep a look out next year for more weekly burger creations.
The year was also jam-packed full of memorable events. Melbourne Cup was celebrated in style and we gave away over $500 in cash and prizes to our best-dressed guests! We hosted birthdays, engagement parties, baby showers, Christmas drinks and more. We introduced our open mic night to the locals. You were a bit shy to begin with, but it’s fast becoming one of our favourite nights of the week!
And last but not least, on behalf of Dee Why Hotel and the Bayfield family, we would like to thank all our wonderful customers for your continued support this the year. Bring on 2018!!
